Caught in a storm
15 May 2020
Black clouds gathered above us, but we were too intent on going to fishing. We hoped that the clouds would go away so that we could continue fishing.
Our hopes were dashed when suddenly heavy rain began to pour. In a few seconds we were all soaked to the skin. To make matters worst, lightning flashed dangerously close to us. The deafening thunder and howling wind did not help either.
We ran towards a large tree under which we had parked our bicycles. The tree provided some shelter from the rain and we were tempted to remain under it. However we knew that it was dangerous to stay under a tree during a thunderstorm. So we got on our bicycles and pedalled off.
There was no other shelter available nearby. So I, for one, decided to go home. Since I was already completely wet, I might was well to go home instead to seeking shelter.
On the way back home, the driving rain made cycling difficult as I could not see more that a couple of metres in front of me. Accidentally, my bicycle skidded and the fish box was being thrown out. Fortunately, I was not injured, but the fish box followed a parabolic track and landed flat on the ground. "Splash!" It went, the fish were all around. At that moment, the bushes were shaking and ten kittens came out to eat the fish. In a blink, nothing were left but bones. However I knew that they couldn't survive by themselves, I decided to bring a big cage and took them home.
Luckily, the rain slowed down to a drizzle and the wind died down. I could still hear distant thunder but the worst of the storm was over. Then, I got on the bicycle with an empty fish box and decided to pedal home, but the kittens kept following me at my back, so I put the little ones in the fish box and slowed down my bicycle for the bigger ones to keep up. At last, we arrived home safely. The kittens played in my garden jumping up and down.
A few days later, my parents helped the kittens to find the new owner so they had a new page of their life. When I knew the kittens being adopted, a gigantic grin spread across my face and my eyes lit up like the sky on the first of October. Our family had done a significant thing.
